Where are the real giraffes?

It’s a question we hear often! While giraffes are not currently part of the Little Rock Zoo’s animal collection, they hold a special place in our history—and in our dreams for the future.

We would love to see giraffes return to Little Rock someday. In fact, a new giraffe habitat is one of several exciting possibilities included in our long-term vision for the Zoo.

But transforming a Zoo takes time, thoughtful planning, and community support. The return of giraffes is a vision for the years ahead, not a project currently underway or one with an established timeline.

A Bigger Vision for a Wilder Tomorrow

The future of the Little Rock Zoo is about much more than any one animal or exhibit.

Through thoughtful planning and continued investment, we’re imagining a Zoo with expanded habitats, engaging guest experiences, enhanced animal care facilities, and new opportunities to connect our community with wildlife.

Some of that transformation is already taking shape through Project Zoo: Wildly Reimagined, which is bringing exciting improvements to the Zoo’s front entrance and surrounding habitats.

Other ideas are much farther on the horizon.

Our long-term vision imagines new possibilities for the Little Rock Zoo, from transforming existing spaces and creating innovative animal habitats to potentially welcoming giraffes back to our African Savannah and developing a modern veterinary hospital.

These ideas are just some of the possibilities we’re exploring for the years ahead. While not all are funded or scheduled, each reflects our commitment to thoughtfully shaping the future of the Little Rock Zoo for generations to come.
