International Vulture Awareness Day

SEP 5, 2026

Celebrate Vulture Awareness Day at the Zoo!

Vultures are often misunderstood, but these incredible birds play a crucial role in the ecosystem by cleaning up carcasses and helping prevent the spread of disease. In Arkansas, we are home to both the Turkey Vulture and the Black Vulture, two species that help maintain the balance of nature.

Fun Fact: Vultures have highly acidic stomachs, which allows them to tolerate eating rotting meat.
