World Snake Day

JUL 16, 2026
Celebrate World Snake Day at the Zoo!

Snakes play an important role keeping our ecosystems healthy by controlling rodent and other pest populations and helping keep food webs in balance. Despite their benefits, many snake species are threatened by habitat loss, road crossings, and human conflict. You can help by giving snakes space, leaving natural areas undisturbed, and learning to identify local species. Visit the Zoo to learn why snakes matter and how protecting them helps entire ecosystems.

Fun Fact: Snakes don’t have eyelids, which means they never blink. Good luck winning a staring contest with one of these reptiles!
