International Maned Wolf Day

OCT 3, 2026
Celebrate International Maned Wolf Day at the Zoo!

Maned wolves support healthy South American grassland and savanna ecosystems by dispersing seeds, including the wolf apple, which helps plants regenerate. They are threatened by habitat loss, road collisions, and conflict with humans as grasslands are converted to agriculture. You can help maned wolves and species like them by supporting habitat conservation, driving cautiously in wildlife areas, choosing sustainable products, and learning more about efforts to protect habitats. Visit the Zoo to learn about the conservation work we are supporting and to find out how you could contribute!

Fun Fact: Maned wolves are omnivores and mostly eat fruit and small animals.
