The Great Backyard Bird Count 2023

The Little Rock Zoo invites you to join in the global project called "The Great Backyard Bird Count".   

Started in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) was the first online citizen-science project (also referred to as community science) to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real time. Learn more here; https://www.birdcount.org/

Here's what the Zoo will do to join the Bird Count-- come join us!

All activities will be at the education kiosk in the front plaza.  Activities take place between 10:00am-12:00pm

Friday, February 17:  Backyard Birds

  • Join us for backyard bird identification, a binoculars and birds tour, DIY bird feeder creation, and learn how to log your bird sightings!

Saturday, February 18:  Raptors (Birds of Prey)

  • Join us for birds of prey identification, a binoculars and birds tour, an owl headband craft, and learn how to log your bird sightings!

Sunday, February 19:  Owls

  • Join us for owl identification, a binoculars and birds tour, an owl headband craft, and learn how to log your bird sightings!

Monday, February 20: Backyard Birds

  • Join us for backyard bird identification, a binoculars and birds tour, DIY bird feeder creation, and learn how to log your bird sightings!
