The Zoo goes to school!  
Can't bring your classroom to the Zoo - then let us bring the Zoo to you!

 

ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS
Our assembly programs are animal presentations for groups ranging from 50 to 400+ individuals in a seated atmosphere. The animals available for large settings are our birds of prey, parrots and macaws, gray-crowned crane and African penguin. Please contact the education department for a complete list of species and prices.
 
Choose one of two topics:
 
Bird Adaptations: Birds are some of the most adaptable species on earth! Let us show you some of our birds’ coolest adaptations, share why they are so important to the world’s ecosystems and tell you what you can do to help save these creatures in the wild. You may even be able to see if you are as highly skilled as our birds are!
Grades: K-5
Time: 45 minutes
 
The Power of Flight: Flight is what makes most birds unique. This ability makes the world’s bird population an integral part of any ecosystem. Get an up close look at our flighted friends, maybe get to see one fly, and learn what you can do to help save these creatures in the wild!*
Grades: 6-12 or Adult Age Groups
Time: 45 minutes
*Flying birds depend on time of year, room size and other factors. Contact the Little Rock Zoo’s Education Department for more information.

WORLDWIDE ADVENTURE CLASS

Want to take your students to another part of the world without ever leaving the classroom? The Worldwide Adventure Class will bring one of our educators into your classroom to give a full ecosystem atmosphere experience. Choose from one of the following classes:

Our World’s Forests: Why do we need them?: All life exists within ecosystems. One of the most diverse ecosystems are our world’s forests! Our education explorer will come into your classroom to give your students a hands-on opportunity to learn  the basic characteristics that all forests share, the different types of forests, animals that can be found in these various woodlands, and even explore the plant life found in each! We’ll also teach the students about the struggles facing forests and how they can help save these ecological treasures!
Grades: K-5
Time: 45 minutes

 

Our World’s Deserts: What lives there anyway?: Deserts are often seen as areas of nothingness. But that’s not true! In this 45-minute class, explore our world’s deserts to discover the basics about these arid ecosystems, what animals call them home, the problems that our deserts are facing and what they can do to help! Engage your students in this fun educational experience and we can guarantee the class will be anything but dry! 
This program is primarily reptiles.
Grades: K-5
Time: 45 minutes

SO YOU WANT TO BE A ZOOKEEPER?
Being a zookeeper is a fun job but also a lot of hard work. They're perfect examples of how fun and rewarding careers in the sciences can be. Our zookeepers not only take care of a variety of animals, but they educate the public on important conservation issues and they work to help conserve animals in the wild. Get the opportunity to talk with a zookeeper, find out what a workday is like and ask other questions!
Age: Any!
Time: 45 minutes

CREATURE FEATURE
Looking to meet some of our animals but in an informal classroom setting? Our Creature Feature program is designed for 50 or less seated individuals and any age range. You will be able to pick and choose which animals you would like us to bring, and we will adapt our topics of conservation to those specific animals. Presentations last 45 minutes and can include biofacts upon request. We are able to do multiple creature features back to back for an additional fee.

MEET AND GREET
Having a school fair or other large event? A meet and greet might be the package you’re looking for. Our meet and greet sessions are ideal for functions where people will be moving around rather seated classroom or audience style. This package includes up to six (6) education ambassador animals for 45 minutes. The handlers can remain stationary and let guests stop to meet the animals as they stroll past or the handlers are able to move around with some of the animal ambassadors depending on crowd size.

HOW MUCH DOES A SCHOOL TO YOU PROGRAM COST?

  • Prices vary depending on audience size and number of programs taking place.
  • There is a limit of 4 of the same program delivered per day at any one institution
  • $25 for each additional program booked at the same site as long as it is the same program using the same animal ambassadors
  • If two or more types of programs are booked at the same institution for the same day - each program will be booked as a distinct program and the rate of a single program applied to each.
  • Add each reserved Animal Ambassador's Fee to the Base Program Fee (plus any additional program fees that may be applicable)

 CALCULATE MILEAGE FEE (if applicable):

  • Multiply number of miles from Little Rock by $0.51/miles round trip ONLY if 25 miles or more from the Little Rock Zoo

 

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all Zoo Education programs.
Reservations must be made at least 3 weeks in advance.
